BARNARDO'S - New Product DevelopmenTThe demands of modern life can leave many parents feeling guilty about not spending enough quality time with their children. Our brief was to develop new product ideas that help families make the most of their precious time together – and set imaginations running wild! Below is a selection of the concepts we presented, some of which feature tie-ins with collaborations with Barnardo’s established commercial partners to improve the campaign’s visibility and distribution.

Extraordinary
It’s time to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. Every month, we’ll inspire busy parents to create space in their hectic day for imagination and laughter.
We’ll give you wings to stick on the sofa – and send your child’s imagination soaring. We’ll turn bath time into a bubble bonanza. We’ll turn your wardrobe door into a gateway to Narnia. The weekly shop into a hungry caterpillar’s adventure.
Our selection of game cards and extraordinary surprises will keep boredom at bay throughout the year. Your quality time together may be limited – but your imagination doesn’t have to be.
This idea leans into Barnardo’s pre-existing partnership with IKEA potentially drawing on their product design expertise and production facilities.

Every six months, we’ll send out a product that can make everyday furniture extraordinary. Like these wings you can add to your sofa.
Buddy Bear
Your child’s teddy is there for them through all of life’s ups and downs. So why not fill their friendship with adventures? Every month, your child will be sent a new accessory for their furry friend, and some inspiration for their next adventure together.
Will they hold umbrellas and jump through puddles together? Will they pop on their aprons and become master chefs? Or climb in a rocket and fly into space? The possibilities are as endless as your child’s imagination.
This idea draws on another one of Barnado’s current partners, Build-A-Bear. We could include pre-existing accessories from Build-A-Bear in the products sent out, encouraging but not limiting recipients to playing with Build-A-Bear teddies they’d purchase separately.

Imagine you could be anyone, anywhere, in an instant. Well, Swish! Now you can! This simple game is a springboard to hours of make-believe fun.
Every month we’ll send you a new deck of beautifully designed picture cards to pop into your Swish starter at random. Then let your little one’s imagination do the rest.

Super Seekers
Help your little one discover their real-life superpowers. Powers of kindness, bravery and sharing.
To kick things off, they’ll be sent their very own superhero cape. Then every month, we’ll send you and your child a fun challenge to cultivate these incredible life skills – and a badge for every challenge they complete. Just iron the badges on to the cape to give these skills the recognition they deserve.
